Description

Just the right size
"Managed to stuff the MT27 in the back of my work vehicle, where it's been for a year. Having cold drinks and healthy meals on long shifts has been a game changer. I can stack 3 Pyrex meal dishes and two 48 ounce Nalgene water bottles in it. It cools down fast and uses very little power; maybe 20ah in a 24 hour period. I set it halfway between 1 and 2 and it stays around 30-32f inside. The only con I can think of is the Transit Bag. It fits, but obstructs the knob. I suppose that's why Engel no longer offers it for this model."

"Product was shipped in a timely manner and was packaged well. I got this unit to use as a freezer in our pickup camper. We also have an Engel SR 70 fridge/ freezer in our camper. Both units work great. Great company to do business with."
Don't bother
"Noisy with a ridiculous amount of vibration. The whole cabin floor shook when this thing starts up. Dishes rattling. Had to put it up on a counter with blankets under it. 2 minutes on, four minutes off. We were up all night. Engle dropped the price on this $200 usd a week after it was delivered. Waste of $1000."

I Use Exclusively As A Freezer
"I am very happy with my Engel MT27. I use it on my Ranger Tug R27 diesel trailerable trawler. This Engel freezer helps my wife and I eat well on our boat during cruising trips. My wife prepares and vacuum pack meals ahead of time that we freeze in our home freezer and then transfer to the Engel before the trip. We also carry frozen store-bought items such as meatballs, French fries and ice cream. Having this freezer on board allows us to use the small freezer in the Nova Cool refrigerator onboard our boat exclusively for ice production using flexible silicone ice trays that make large cocktail-size cubes. In the two years we’ve been doing this, we have had to buy only one bag of ice. The two downsides to this product that keep me from awarding it five stars are: 1) The only detent on the thermostat setting knob is OFF. Early in my use of this product, I inadvertently brushed the thermostat knob a time or two and raised the temperature setting. The knob moves very easily. That resulted in an unwanted temperature rise in the freezer. I now keep a piece of white electrical tape over the thermostat knob to keep it in place. It would be nice if there were detents at whole and half settings or go to a digital control. 2) My boat has limited house battery capacity and I have tried preserving it by turning off the freezer for periods while anchored and on battery power. I was surprised to see how fast the temperature rose inside the freezer, even using the $125 Engel insulting cover. I keep a recording digital thermometer inside the MT27 so I know exactly how much it rises. Despite those two negatives, I highly recommend this cooler to anyone who asks about it. Its cost is commensurate with its quality."
Great Unit & Great Support
"Bought an MT-27 almost a decade ago and it has served us well on our sailboat 6mos/year (DC), at our house (AC) as well as in our Jeep on road trips (DC). When it started acting up, I contacted Customer Support to inquire about shipping it in for repairs. They encouraged me to talk to tech support to see if it might be an easy repair I could do myself. Turns out it was and my MT-27 is running like a champ again, ready for another decade of adventures. In the meantime we already ordered a 2nd one just to have the extra capacity. Also turns out that "tech support" was the owner, Paul. He was very helpful and very patient w/me through the process. I've had other sailors tell me of their similarly positive experience w/Engel. A+"
