Description
What separates the Engel Heavy-Duty Soft Sided Cooler from the competition is the fact that the Engel HD20 is entirely welded while most of its counterparts are sewn. By welding all seams, warm air is kept out, dramatically increasing the life of the ice or ice packs inside. The welded seams ensure there will be no air or water leaks, and allow the soft-sided HD20 to keep beverages cold for 3.5 days, according to an independent review. The HD20 boasts an outer shell composed of durable 840 denier fibers, which provide maximum strength and abrasion resistance. The front and back sides are laminated with a Thermal Plastic Urethane (TPU) film, adding another layer of strength and puncture resistance. The cooler has closed-cell foam insulation, preventing air from passing through it and improving the thermal range of the cooler. With a welded waterproof and air resistant zipper that requires lubrication for optimum function, this cooler has a capacity of 22Qts and can be carried with tote handles or with a single padded strap. Like other Engel models, the cooler has an integrated bottle opener.

"Accessing the contents is a chore. An unfair one at that. You basically need one person to pry the opening apart while the second person loads the cooler. It would be a better design to have the zipper unzip the top (3 sides are zipped and on is hinged). Does the zipper need to resist water so much? To me that seems unnecessary. Bottom Line: avoid as the cooler fights you"

"Got the HD20 Engel Cooler as a Christmas gift. Zipper is so tight my 10 year old kids can’t use it, and opening is super small. Tried to do an exchange and company would not honor it. Cooler is new, unused, and with tags in Engel box. Hopefully you don’t get this as a gift or you’re stuck with it."
Not worth it
"3 days cold? Not close. Bought a large ice pack for it too. Made a trip to Key West. Ice totally gone next day. Super disappointed. I have 2 hard coolers on my boats and they are great. This one is a loser"
It has been a great journey!
"The soft cooler has been a very great success. We have made a journey with our soft cooler. It has been Swimming, hiking, canoeing, camping, boating, and family/friend gatherings. After four years, the zipper finally gave up, the rubber seal is flaking off. The soft cooler is still holding a vacuum. I’m disappointing in the zipper I would like to have this cooler for another 2 to 3 years."

"The opening is so small and stiff that it is almost impossible to put anything inside the cooler. I would like to return it, but I have to pay the return postage, and the box is quite large. Also, I'm told there might be a restocking fee. I do NOT recommend."

- No. Engel Coolers are made for chilling. If you place hot dishes in the cooler you can damage the seal.
